Lionel Toy Train Layout - Page 1 of 4
I have been working on my current Lionel Train layout project for 18 years. It got off to a slow start because the "Train Station" building was unfinished when I first moved to my present home. After the room painting and carpeting was done, work on the layout table was started. Having about 320 square feet of space to work with, I designed a u-shaped layout in the center of the room with a control panel inside the "u." This design was chosen because I wanted to be able to walk all the way around the layout to get as many views as possible. This also makes it much easier to work on, as all parts of the layout are accessible. I have a viewable Track Plan for my layout.
There are three track loops, a trolley line and a monorail on my layout. Two of the track loops parallel each other on the lower level. The outer loop has O31 curves and the inner loop O27. The elevated track has O72 curves. This elevated line was added after the addition of Lionel prewar streamliners to my collection. Due to their design, these streamliners require a minimum 72" diameter curve for operation. I also have a number of operating and non-operating accessories, many of which can be seen in the photos below and the pages that follow. New accessories are added as acquired and layout space can be found. There are enough lights on the layout to illuminate the room at night with the room lights off.
